Mission
About Dreaming Justice
We imagine freedom, then build the conditions for it.
Dreaming Justice Project is a Black, Latinx, trans, gender-expansive, and queer-led collective working where decarceration, reentry, immigrant community support, harm reduction, HIV prevention, racial justice, and transformative justice meet.
Vision
A world without cages, where every person has the freedom, resources, and power to live, heal, and thrive.
Purpose
To dismantle systems that cage and discard people while building community-rooted pathways to safety, dignity, healing, and power.
Who we stand with
Care without borders. Wellness without judgment.
We work alongside immigrant community members, people returning from incarceration, people who use drugs, people living with or vulnerable to HIV, and Black, Latinx, trans, gender-expansive, and queer communities.
Our approach connects practical immigrant support, harm reduction, naloxone distribution, HIV and STI prevention, reentry services, and affirming care. We meet people where they are and protect every person’s right to safety, health, dignity, and self-determination.
What guides us
Values rooted in social justice.
Abolition
We create safety through care, resources, belonging, and changed conditions, not cages.
Directly Impacted Leadership
People closest to the harm must shape the vision, decisions, and solutions.
Racial, Gender & Economic Justice
We confront anti-Blackness, racism, transphobia, homophobia, poverty, and disposability together.
Dignity & Bodily Autonomy
Every person deserves agency, wellness, and the right to determine their future.
Community Care & Collective Power
We build with people, not for them, because liberation is a shared practice.
Truth & Narrative Justice
We protect lived truth and use story to challenge narratives that make punishment seem normal.
Transformative Accountability
We pursue responsibility, repair, healing, and changed behavior without reproducing harm.
Imagination in Action
We pair radical vision with material solutions people can feel in their daily lives.

Founder story
Dr. Christy Perez
Founder and Managing Executive Director
Dr. Christy founded Dreaming Justice from a belief that people most affected by punishment, exclusion, and systemic violence are also the people best equipped to lead us toward something better.
Her work brings strategy, care, public learning, and community partnership into one practice. Dreaming Justice reflects that approach: meet immediate needs, tell the truth about harmful systems, and build lasting pathways to freedom.
Our full team is growing. Additional staff profiles will be added as the organization completes its team directory.
